Community Guidelines

Effective: May 18, 2026·Last updated: May 18, 2026·safety@joinlattice.app

1. Purpose

Lattice is a professional campus community. These guidelines exist to make Lattice a safe, trustworthy, and productive place for students to find real opportunities — and for professors and team leaders to find qualified collaborators and candidates.

We take these guidelines seriously. Violating them puts the platform's trustworthiness at risk for everyone. We'd rather have a smaller, higher-quality community than a large one filled with spam, misinformation, or bad actors.

2. Who This Applies To

These guidelines apply to all Lattice users regardless of account type:

  • Students browsing and applying to opportunities
  • Professors posting research positions
  • Team and club leaders posting openings
  • Any user sending messages, creating profiles, or posting content

3. Required Conduct

Be accurate

Your profile should accurately represent who you are. Opportunity postings must accurately describe the role, compensation, time commitment, and requirements. Misrepresentation is a serious violation.

Be respectful

Professional disagreements are acceptable. Personal attacks, harassment, discrimination, and hate speech are not. Treat every user with the professionalism you'd want in a workplace setting.

No spam

Don't post the same opportunity multiple times, send the same message to many users, or use automated tools to interact with the platform.

No harassment

Don't message users repeatedly after being ignored. Don't threaten, demean, or intimidate anyone. Don't share personal information about another user without their consent.

No impersonation

Don't impersonate professors, university departments, or other students. Verified badges require confirmation of your affiliation.

No illegal recruitment

Don't post opportunities that involve illegal work, unpaid internships that violate labor law, or roles requiring the applicant to pay money upfront.

4. Content Standards

All content on Lattice — profiles, posts, messages, applications — must meet these standards:

  • No sexually explicit, violent, or graphic content
  • No content that promotes or celebrates illegal activity
  • No discriminatory content (race, gender, religion, disability, national origin, sexual orientation, age)
  • No misinformation about compensation, requirements, or the nature of a role
  • No scam listings (fake companies, fake positions, phishing attempts)
  • No plagiarized materials in profiles or opportunity descriptions
  • Opportunity descriptions should be in English (international expansion TBD)

5. Enforcement

Lattice uses a graduated enforcement model:

  1. First violation (minor): Content removed, warning issued via email
  2. Second violation or serious first violation: Temporary suspension (7–30 days)
  3. Third violation or severe offense (fraud, harassment, impersonation): Permanent ban

At 3 user reports, content is automatically hidden pending manual review by our moderation team. Automated actions are always reviewed by a human before becoming permanent.

Severe violations

The following result in immediate permanent bans without prior warning: posting job scams or phishing links; sharing non-consensual intimate images; threatening physical harm; operating a fraudulent professor account or impersonating Lattice staff.

6. Reporting

If you see content that violates these guidelines, use the "Report" option on any post or profile. You can also email safety@joinlattice.app directly.

Reports are confidential — the person you report will not be notified that you reported them. False or malicious reports (filing reports to harass someone) are themselves a violation of these guidelines.

7. Appeals

If you believe your account was actioned in error, you have 30 days to appeal by emailing safety@joinlattice.app with the subject line "Appeal: [your email]." Include a description of why you believe the action was incorrect. We will respond within 5 business days.

Appeals are reviewed by a different team member than the one who took the original action. Decisions on appeals are final.

8. Contact

For safety and moderation matters: safety@joinlattice.app

For urgent safety concerns (threats of violence, self-harm), please also contact your university's student affairs office or local emergency services.
